This project started as a part of the 2017-2018 Fulbright English Teaching Assistant Grant I recieved which placed me in Santiago de Compostela, Galicia in the province of A Coruña, Spain. I was inspired to start this project as a way to better understand the multilingual environment, and people, of Galicia, from Galicians themselves to people who have found their way here, one way or the other.

Interviewees were asked to speak in the language they felt most comfortable in (within the limits of my ability to understand them). In order to facilitate this aspect of the project and otherwise enrich my experience here, I enrolled in basic Galician classes at Santiago’s Escola Oficial de Idiomas (Official Language School), where language classes are offered for Spanish, Galician, English, French, German, Italian, and Portuguese. I had previously taken Spanish classes for ten consecutive years (and one Portuguese class) and am a recent graduate of The Ohio State University (Spanish and Comparative Cultural Studies double major, Latino/a Studies minor).
